The initiative was detailed at an event held at the Real Casa de Postas by the regional ministers of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, and Culture, Tourism and Sport. This sporting event aims to combine physical exercise with an appreciation for the region's territory and natural heritage, with a special focus on the Sierra del Rincón.
“"It is an excellent opportunity to enjoy places of great value, with a special focus on the Sierra del Rincón, combining physical exercise, territory, and natural heritage. I encourage you to participate because cycling allows you to discover the Community of Madrid in a different, close, and authentic way."
The tour will start and finish in Buitrago del Lozoya, offering two routes: one of 143 kilometers and a shorter one of 85 kilometers. The longer route will pass through towns such as Gandullas, Madarcos, Montejo de la Sierra, El Cardoso de la Sierra, La Hiruela, Prádena del Rincón, Mangirón, Robledillo de la Jara, Puebla de la Sierra, Paredes de Buitrago, Serrada de la Fuente, and Berzosa del Lozoya.
The longer route will accumulate a positive elevation gain of 2,835 meters, conquering four mountain passes: Campadales, La Hiruela, Alto de Matachines – La Fragüela, and Puerto de La Puebla. The shorter itinerary, with approximately 1,500 meters of positive elevation gain, will pass through 8 localities.
The Community of Madrid boasts over 150 cycling clubs and more than 3,000 federated licenses. The regional government supports this sport through initiatives like the Basic Network of Cycling Routes, which already spans 55 kilometers and will see an investment of 116 million euros in the coming years to add 387 new kilometers.
The Pueblos con Vida program, which lends its name to this event, has an investment of 155 million euros. This program reflects the autonomous executive's commitment to retaining population, generating economic activity, and ensuring public services in the region's smaller municipalities.
