The mayor, Arancha Álvarez, highlighted the importance of livestock farming for fire prevention, stating that farmers "provide extraordinary value for fire prevention as they help clear the mountains, which is increasingly difficult with fewer animals grazing."
The project, with a budget of 30,239.77 euros (27,215.70 € for works and 3,024.07 € for associated expenses), was carried out in two strategic locations north of the municipal area: Plot 559, Avanzadas area (Polygon 1), and Plot 10005, Primera Hondonada area (Polygon 5). Both troughs are located on land classified as Non-Urbanizable Land for Livestock Protection.
The traditional stone troughs were in an advanced state of deterioration, suffering from leaks and water loss. The project included selective demolition, the construction of a new reinforced concrete slab, the installation of new prefabricated concrete troughs, the renovation of the water supply network from springs, and the improvement of the drainage system. Additionally, the exterior was clad with traditional masonry walls and stone copings to ensure aesthetic fidelity with the original architecture and respect the protected environment of the Biosphere Reserve.
The project, designed under strict sustainability and circular economy criteria, was funded 100% by the Directorate General of Investments and Local Development of the Community of Madrid through the PIR 2022-2026. The City Council thus reaffirms its commitment to the primary sector, considered a fundamental pillar of the local economy, landscape maintenance, and fire prevention in the municipality.
