The Community of Madrid has participated in the inaugural 'Pueblos con Vida Sierra Norte' Cycling Tour, a sporting event that traverses 13 municipalities in the region, highlighting its potential for rural tourism.

The Community of Madrid has celebrated the first edition of the 'Pueblos con Vida Sierra Norte' Cycling Tour, an initiative aimed at showcasing the natural and scenic charms of the 13 municipalities that make up this region of Madrid. The event featured two routes, one of 143 kilometers and another of 85 kilometers, both starting and finishing in Buitrago del Lozoya.
The Minister of Presidency, Justice, and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín, took part in the longer 143-kilometer route. After the race, García Martín highlighted the successful participation and the importance of projects like this, sponsored by the 'Pueblos con Vida' program. According to the minister, these initiatives demonstrate that "sport is a magnificent tool for revitalizing rural areas and bringing people closer to these places."
Furthermore, the regional representative emphasized the suitability of the Sierra Norte for hosting major events, recalling the upcoming first stage of the Rowing Clubs Association League on June 28th at the Riosequillo Reservoir, also located in Buitrago del Lozoya.
The main 143-kilometer route passed through towns such as Gandullas, Madarcos, Montejo de la Sierra, El Cardoso de la Sierra, La Hiruela, Prádena del Rincón, Mangirón, Robledillo de la Jara, Puebla de la Sierra, Paredes de Buitrago, Serrada de la Fuente, and Berzosa del Lozoya. This route involved a positive elevation gain of 2,835 meters, cresting four mountain passes: Campadales, La Hiruela, Alto de Matachines – La Fragüela, and the Puerto de La Puebla.
The 85-kilometer itinerary, with an approximate positive elevation gain of 1,500 meters, traversed eight local towns, offering a more accessible alternative for cyclists.
