The municipality of Buitrago del Lozoya, specifically the Riosequillo Pools Recreational Area, has been chosen by the Regional Executive to host the main celebration of a solar eclipse generating unprecedented anticipation. The selection of this natural site is due to its excellent observation conditions. The 3,000 available spots for the Eclipse Festival sold out in one hour, demonstrating public interest in accessible and well-organized scientific outreach, promoted by the Pueblos con Vida program.
This astronomical event, the first of its magnitude in the Iberian Peninsula since 1905, will feature a light transition visible from 7:30 PM, reaching its maximum darkness around 8:32 PM, coinciding with sunset. The eclipse can be observed in 93 locations in the northern and eastern parts of the Community of Madrid, with detailed information available on the Regional Government's website.
The day will not be limited to technical observation but will include a fun and family-friendly offering. Attendees will enjoy food trucks, live music, children's games, and workshops on the solar system. The graphic exhibition Trío de Eclipses, provided by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Universities, highlights the historical, artistic, social, and scientific significance of these phenomena.
Health authorities warn of the danger of looking directly at the sun. Therefore, 4,000 certified glasses will be distributed at the main Riosequillo site and another 36,500 at over 50 safe observation points coordinated with local councils. These glasses include a QR code for additional event information.
To facilitate access for thousands of people, the Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) has launched a special plan with reinforcements on interurban bus routes. Lines 191 (Madrid-Buitrago del Lozoya) and 193 (Madrid-Pedrezuela-Venturada) from the Plaza de Castilla Interchange, as well as lines 725, 726, 691, 223, and 222, will increase their frequencies.
