The extraordinary Plenary session held this Thursday, October 15, failed to approve the budgetary proposal to address the serious structural damage caused by the hailstorm in June of last year. This paralysis directly impacts the commercial premises located on the ground floor of the Bullring and the businesses operating there.
The delay in roof repairs maintains a constant risk to the safety and integrity of these establishments due to water leaks and progressive deterioration of the building. This situation not only compromises the daily operations of local commerce but also casts serious uncertainty over the livelihoods of families and jobs of Moralzarzal residents who depend on the normal functioning of these spaces.
The total project budget is €353,971.32, with an insurance compensation of €160,348.46 and a blocked allocation (treasury surplus) of €193,322.86. During the vote on this item, the mayor and the non-attached councilor recused themselves due to being considered interested parties. The result was 7 votes in favor (Partido Popular and Contigo) and 8 against (VMP, PSOE, VOX, and MEC).
The proposal was supported by favorable technical and auditor reports justifying the utmost urgency of the action. With this new veto in the Plenary, the tender process is temporarily suspended, delaying public procurement administrative timelines and leaving municipal assets and the stability of local merchants unprotected.
