The Soto del Real City Council has organized a guided tour to introduce residents to the operation of the Palancares Reservoir, a key facility for the municipality's drinking water supply. This initiative aims to educate citizens about the source of their water and the functioning of the municipal system.
Mayor Noelia Barrado has emphasized the importance of residents understanding the origin and process of the water reaching their homes. The Palancares Reservoir collects water from streams and, after passing through a Water Treatment Plant (ETAP), it is distributed to municipal reservoirs before reaching consumption points.
Unlike other municipalities that rely solely on the general system of the Canal de Isabel II, Soto del Real stands out for its year-round water self-sufficiency thanks to its own facilities. This model highlights the importance of continuous maintenance of the reservoir and related infrastructure for the integral water cycle.
The council maintains an active conservation program and plans new maintenance actions for the reservoir in mid-October. These facilities, while requiring ongoing investment and attention, provide significant benefits to the municipality.
The guided tour will allow residents to see firsthand an infrastructure usually distant from their daily lives, explaining the process of collection, treatment at the ETAP, and distribution to reservoirs and homes. The City Council has previously organized similar events, reinforcing its commitment to publicizing essential services.
