San Lorenzo de El Escorial celebrates its second Environment Week from May 30 to June 6, offering a diverse program of activities for all ages.

The municipality of San Lorenzo de El Escorial is preparing to host the second edition of Environment Week, an event that will take place from May 30 to June 6. The initiative aims to highlight the locality's rich natural heritage and promote its understanding and conservation among residents.
The program, which has the collaboration of more than ten local entities, includes a variety of proposals such as guided nature routes, educational workshops, specialized conferences, clean-up drives, and film screenings. The goal is to bring the natural environment closer to residents of all ages.
The mayor, Carlota López Esteban, emphasized the importance of this event, stating that "San Lorenzo de El Escorial possesses an extraordinary natural heritage, which is an essential part of our identity." Through this week, residents are invited to "look at our surroundings, get to know them better, and get involved in their conservation."
The activities will kick off on the weekend of May 30 and 31 with offerings from the Arboreto Luis Ceballos. On Saturday, a dog-friendly trail will take place in La Herrería, and on Sunday, a thematic visit on "The Amphibian Challenge" will be held. Both require prior registration by calling 91 898 21 32.
Starting Monday, June 1, the Casa de Cultura will host a series of free-entry conferences. Highlights include talks on air quality through lichens, ocean ecology, and the birds of the Sierra de Guadarrama, presented by experts from Abantos Activo, the Ateneo Escurialense, and SEO/BirdLife Sierra de Guadarrama.
Clean-up drives are another participatory highlight. They will be held on June 3, 4, and 5 at different points in the natural environment, with limited capacity and prior registration at medionatural@aytosanlorenzo.es.
Children will also have their space with workshops such as "The Water Cycle" on June 3 in the Plaza de la Constitución, and "Tracks of Iberian Fauna" on June 6 in the Casa de la Juventud. These activities are organized by Canal de Isabel II and Deverde, respectively.
The program also includes a botanical walk, environmental film screenings such as "Farewell to Matiora" with a subsequent discussion, a health and nature scavenger hunt organized by Hospital El Escorial, and visits to the Social Gardens and Felipe II's forest.
The week will conclude on June 6 with guided excursions on the Isabella Butterfly, visits to organic gardens, and the family fauna tracks workshop. Additionally, the environmental film cycle by Colectivo Rousseau will continue throughout June with screenings like "Dersu Uzala" and "Promised Land."
