The decision, approved by a majority with the support of all groups and the dissenting vote of one councilor from Moralzarzal en Común, culminates an process initiated on June 4th by the Local Government Board.
Antonio López Hurtado “Zárate” (Madrid, 1943), a retired Telecommunications Engineer, has dedicated decades to researching and preserving the history of Moralzarzal. His work has documented traditional trades, local customs, historical heritage, as well as the municipality's fauna and flora.
A large part of his archive is available on his website, www.conocermoralzarzal.es, and has been published in various works such as Moralzarzal, Crónicas del agua and La Enseñanza en Moralzarzal, among about ten titles on old trades.
The idea for this institutional tribute arose after the presentation of his book El Mundo Rural en Moralzarzal, where the mayor, José Mª Moreno, expressed the intention to name a street after him. The recognition materialized during the presentation of his latest book, La Enseñanza en Moralzarzal, when Antonio himself, emotionally, suggested the chosen space, receiving a unanimous ovation.
From now on, this green area of the municipality will bear the name of the man considered the guardian of Moralzarzal's collective memory.
