The Community of Madrid has launched a new Rural Roads Plan with an investment of 58 million euros, set to implement 42 actions in 38 municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants. The goal is to modernize the road network, improve accessibility, and enhance safety.

This plan, financed through the Regional Investment Program (PIR) 2022/26, will benefit approximately 250,000 people. The interventions encompass the conditioning of town crossings and urban access roads, the construction and rehabilitation of bicycle lanes, improvements in pedestrian accessibility, the creation of new intersections, and the renewal of road surfaces.
The project, developed in close coordination with the mayors of the affected localities, aims to reduce travel times and provide a more modern and secure road network. Initial works on town crossings are scheduled to begin in the last quarter of 2026, with the remaining interventions to be executed throughout 2027.
Within the plan, 17 million euros will be allocated to 18 projects for the conditioning of town crossings and urban access roads in 16 municipalities, covering nearly 30 kilometers of routes. Benefiting towns include Becerril de la Sierra, Cercedilla, Chinchón, Collado Mediano, Guadarrama, Los Molinos, Moralzarzal, Tielmes, and Villarejo de Salvanés.
Additionally, 19 million euros will be invested in constructing and rehabilitating 47 kilometers of bicycle lanes in towns such as Ciempozuelos, Fuente el Saz de Jarama, Loeches, Lozoya, Meco, and Soto del Real. Ten actions are also planned to enhance pedestrian accessibility over 2.6 kilometers of routes, with an investment of approximately 3.5 million euros, in municipalities like Berzosa del Lozoya, Nuevo Baztán, San Agustín del Guadalix, Santa María de la Alameda, and Valdelaguna.
Finally, the program includes the construction of six new intersections and the renewal of road surfaces on two stretches totaling 25 kilometers, with a budget of 18.8 million euros. These works will be carried out in municipalities such as Aldea del Fresno, Bustarviejo, Colmenar de Oreja, Daganzo de Arriba, San Lorenzo de El Escorial, and Valdilecha. The initiative is part of the Regional Executive's 2025/32 Road Plan and will be managed by the public company Planifica Madrid.
