The Department of Environment, led by Jaime Santamarta, has designed a program focused on learning, respect for the environment, and values education, utilizing play and experimentation as primary tools.
The municipality's Eco-schools will also benefit from this program, with annual and quarterly projects, workshops, and activities at the La Talaverona Environmental Center. The goal is to engage the educational community in initiatives to raise awareness about protecting the natural environment of Las Rozas.
Family-oriented activities include storytelling on October 10th, a birdhouse and feeder maintenance workshop on October 17th, and a special Halloween gymkhana on October 29th. A workshop on mysterious books titled “Medieval Bestiaries” will be held on November 1st, followed by an art and nature day in the Guadarrama River area on November 14th.
The program continues with the guided itinerary “Catch the Footprint” on November 28th at the Virgen del Retamar recreational area. This will be followed by the “Los Talaverianos” gymkhana on December 5th and another themed around invasive alien species on December 12th. The Christmas program will conclude on December 19th with the activity “The Wishing Tree”.
In addition to family offerings, courses for adults include Organic Horticulture (October 3rd and 14th), Domestic Composting (September 23rd), and guided itineraries such as “Birdwatching around Las Rozas” (October 18th) and Shinrin-yoku (November 7th). An introductory zoology workshop will also be held on November 15th.
One of the program's highlights will be the Great Family Plantation on October 24th at Finca El Garzo, in Las Matas. Residents can participate in planting forest species to help restore the tree cover of the municipality. Environmental workshops and cultural events will take place throughout the morning.
