The socialist group of Collado Villalba has criticized the municipal government for new cost overruns in the renaturalization works of the Guadarrama River, attributing the situation to a lack of planning.

Socialists in Collado Villalba have accused the municipal government of acknowledging new cost overruns in the renaturalization works of the Guadarrama River. According to the complaint, the local Executive presented a budget modification of 590,835 euros to the ordinary Plenary Session, charged to the treasury surplus, to cover part of the project's additional expenses.

"There are serious errors in the action."

The socialist group reproached the Executive for its “lack of planning.” The cost overruns linked to the work already amount to 1,249,000 euros, a figure significantly higher than the 168,000 euros initially planned. This difference, according to the socialists, directly impacts the citizens.
Criticism was also directed at the decision to lower the riverbed at Parque de las Bombas and eliminate wells that acted as overflow points during potential floods, once the project had begun. Socialists argue that this decision was made without adequately assessing the resulting loss of hydraulic capacity.
The socialist group also questioned the City Council's undertaking of such a large-scale project without precise knowledge of the location and depth of certain infrastructures. It was pointed out that the drafting company did not physically inspect the riverbed, which would have allowed for anticipating problems and avoiding added costs.

"Everything they touch costs the residents of Villalba money."

Furthermore, the Corporation approved a socialist motion to protect the Dehesa Boyal against the possible installation of infrastructure for the San Antonio de Padua festivities in this natural environment. However, the socialists criticized the municipal government for supporting the initiative while confirming that it would again set up the festival tent in the same location.

"The Government must choose between protecting the Dehesa Boyal or using it for festive purposes, but it cannot do both simultaneously."
