The event, which runs until next Thursday, aims to analyze the research and conservation work carried out over the last two decades in these natural sites. The meeting facilitates the exchange of knowledge between protected area managers, scientists, and the general public.
The Community of Madrid has allocated an investment of 11 million euros for its action plan on cataloged wetlands. This budget seeks to restore spaces that are fundamental for biodiversity, fulfilling essential functions such as climate regulation, freshwater storage, and providing refuge for aquatic fauna.

The region has highly relevant sites, such as the lagoons of the Peñalara Massif, located in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. These spaces, which were included 20 years ago in the RAMSAR list, represent one of the best European examples of Mediterranean high-mountain aquatic ecosystems.
