The departments of Local Development and Festivities have decided to extend the duration of the festivities, which saw considerable success last year. For three days, the traditional Madrid atmosphere will fill the streets, with organ grinders and wafer sellers contributing to the traditional soundscape.
On May 16th, attendees can enjoy a zarzuela concert between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM. Additionally, the Homemakers' Association will offer buñuelos and pestiños, typical regional sweets. That day's activities will also feature chotis dancing and contests for 'chulapas' and 'chulapos', inviting participants to wear traditional Madrid attire in the Plaza de la Constitución at 1:00 PM. Registration is free and can be done up to minutes before the contest begins.
“"We want to attract a sector related to plants and gardening to Torrelodones that will surely be well received by our neighbors and visitors. At the same time, we want the traditional 'castizo' spirit to also be present here."
A jury, composed of representatives from the City Council and members of the La Cucaña and La Escombrera clubs, will evaluate attire, originality, staging, charm, and fidelity to the traditional Madrid style, awarding three prizes to the winners.
Concurrently with the San Isidro celebrations, Torrelodones will host the second edition of its Plant and Flower Fair. This event, which has become an important fixture in the local May calendar, is organized in collaboration with El Campito Verde. The initiative aims to boost local commerce and hospitality, transforming the town center into a meeting point for gardening enthusiasts.
The fair will feature stalls from nursery owners, florists, and small producers who will display their best specimens and offer advice to the public on suitable species for various spaces. The fair hours will be from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Friday and Saturday (May 15th and 16th), and from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Sunday (May 17th), blending tradition, gardening, and the environment during this festive long weekend.
