Spanish politics is once again at the center of media attention due to corruption scandals, with the 'Koldo case' and the Gürtel plot as main protagonists. Both cases have generated an intense debate about the actions of justice and the benefits granted to those who cooperate with it.
The 'Koldo case', involving a former advisor to a Transport minister, has been compared to the Gürtel plot, which affected important figures from another political party and led to the downfall of mayors in municipalities like Majadahonda. In both scenarios, the figure of the 'repentant' or collaborator has been key, generating controversy over the conditions of their prison benefits.

A Government minister has pointed out differences between the collaboration provided by a commissioner in the 'Koldo case' and that of the former councilor from Majadahonda who uncovered the Gürtel plot. While the latter provided decisive evidence and his confession earned a 'highly qualified' mitigating circumstance, the situation of the 'Koldo case' commissioner is under discussion, although the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has defended a reduction in sentence due to his cooperation.
The former councilor of Majadahonda, who was partially pardoned in October 2024, has repeatedly recounted the serious threats and harassment he and his family suffered after reporting the corruption. His statements have highlighted the pressure faced by those who decide to cooperate with justice in large-scale cases.
