The Villanueva de la Cañada City Council has announced plans for the construction of 140 housing units for young people under a rental scheme, the upcoming inauguration of a fire station, and the projection of a new, larger auditorium.

Housing has been positioned as the municipality's "number one priority," aiming to prevent young people from having to seek residence in nearby towns. Urban developments, though complex, have allowed for the unblocking of sector one, with capacity for nearly a thousand protected housing units.

"Before summer, we will launch the tender, and we hope to award the works or construction right after summer."

In education, Villanueva de la Cañada stands out for hosting two universities, Alfonso X el Sabio and Camilo José Cela, in addition to ten bilingual schools. The municipality accommodates about 10,500 students, half of whom come from neighboring towns, impacting municipal services.
Regarding fiscal matters, the City Council has approved a reduction in the IBI (property tax) for the 2027 fiscal year, aiming to adjust the tax to the current reality of land values, which date back to the 1990s. This measure will save families approximately 500,000 euros this year, with plans for further reductions until the legal minimum is reached.
The municipality is considered safe, although concerns have been raised about the number of Guardia Civil officers. To facilitate officers' residency, the City Council has provided six free housing units. Furthermore, a fire station is expected to open in September, with a 5.7 million euro investment, serving Villanueva and surrounding municipalities.
Finally, a new cleaning tender is being prepared with more advanced and modern conditions. For cultural facilities, an auditorium with more than double the capacity of current venues is planned to host large theatrical performances and events, coinciding with the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the municipality being granted the title of Villa.
