More than a year after its initial approval and with no significant progress, the Popular Party brought the resolution of the presented objections to a plenary session. Socialist spokesperson, Víctor Ibáñez, questioned the delay in moving forward with a proposal that, according to him, faces considerable opposition.
The socialists have expressed their rejection of the plan, deeming it unnecessary, costly, and disconnected from the municipality's actual mobility needs. This stance is shared by various neighborhood associations, groups, merchants, and numerous citizens of Torrelodones, who have publicly voiced doubts about the project's feasibility and urban impact.
“"In rejecting this parking facility, we are joined not only by political groups with nothing in common; but also by many people, many entities, and many individuals who do not share this project. Perhaps those who need to reconsider are the gentlemen of the PP."
The PSOE suggests more efficient and economical alternatives, such as creating a park-and-ride facility on the former landfill site. Ibáñez recalled during the debate the global trend towards mobility models that prioritize pedestrian movement and sustainable urbanism, reducing the presence of private vehicles in urban centers.
The socialist spokesperson also warned about the risks of committing the council for 40 years through a concession of this nature, advocating for approaches that do not prioritize vehicles over pedestrians in urban areas.
