The municipality's Urban Planning Department will address the poor condition of the pavement, which shows wear, lifting, and cracks. The work will focus on a section of Avenida de la Dehesa, between the athletics track and the end of the central boulevard, in front of the Health Center's emergency services.
The decision was approved at the City Council meeting last June, with the support of the PP, Vox, and PSOE parties, while Vecinos por Torrelodones voted against it.
The intervention will also include the resurfacing of several streets in the El Monte-Los Peñascales and Nuevo Peñascales urbanizations. Among these are Avenida del Monte, Avenida del Escondite, calle del Pozo, calle del Depósito, calle Buenavista, Acacias, Padre Mundina, Javier Tusell, and Torrencina. Additionally, work will be done on the elevated pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Avenida del Monte and Avenida Transversal.
It has been noted that some of these roads, such as those in the Nuevos Peñascales area, have not been resurfaced since 1990, the year they were urbanized, highlighting the necessity of the intervention.
This new phase adds to previous investments. Since late 2023, the City Council has already allocated over one million euros to phases 18 and 19 of the asphalt plan. Initial emergency works in December 2023 and subsequent phases in January 2024 have covered various streets in the town center and urbanizations, bringing the total investment in asphalt resurfacing since 2023 to over 2 million euros.
At the same Council meeting, other budget items were approved, such as 421,000 euros for public lighting maintenance and modifications in the Sports area for the repair of sports facilities and subsidies to clubs.
However, other proposals were rejected, including subsidies to subsidized schools for mental health programs, security agreements with urbanizations, and the creation of new children's play areas. The project for the construction of a car park on calle Real was also voted against.
Regarding motions, a proposal by Vox against corruption and calling for immediate elections was approved, with abstention from Vecinos and a vote against from the PSOE. Finally, a motion by the PSOE to implement an energy efficiency plan in educational centers was approved, with support from VxT and PSOE, and abstention from the PP.
