Following several sessions of debate, the Torrelodones Council, held on Thursday, May 21st, gave the green light to various investments that had been previously rejected. Among the unanimously approved actions was the repair of the sinkhole on Jesusa Lara street, with a budget of 420,000 euros, a project that already had the approval of the local Government Board.
Payments for sentences corresponding to work from previous legislatures were also approved. Improvements in schools, advocated by the Councilor for Education, Lorena Fernández, also received unanimous support from the Council, with an allocation of 286,400 euros.
Other unanimous decisions included the payment of the fire extinction fee to the Community of Madrid (45,000 euros) and an addendum to the agreement with Canal de Isabel II in the Los Jarales urbanization (19,976 euros). The increase in the municipal contribution to the THAM Mancomunidad (18,790 euros) was also approved by all groups.
The approval of expenses for Secretariat and Personnel (48,000 euros) was supported by the votes of the PP and PSOE, against the votes of Vecinos and Vox. A budget item to increase educational excellence awards, extending them to private centers, passed with the support of the PP and Vox.
A package of investments to improve equipment at the Paco de Lucía House of Culture (70,000 euros) was approved with the casting vote of the mayor, against Vox and Vecinos, and the abstention of the PSOE. The purchase of accounting software for the Council (10,549 euros) was also approved with the mayor's casting vote.
Unanimously, the municipal contribution of 231,000 euros to the regional investment program PIR was approved, intended for accessibility improvements in the Arroyo de Trofas, Montealegre, and Los Robles urbanizations. The municipal building cleaning contract (55,000 euros) and the parks and gardens contract payment received the support of the PP and PSOE, with opposition from VxT and Vox.
The energy rehabilitation of the municipal sports center, funded 80% by European Funds and 20% by the Council (560,000 euros), was unanimously approved. An allocation of 60,400 euros for the Animal Welfare Center and a subsidy of 8,000 euros to brotherhoods also received approval, albeit with divided votes.
The subsidy to school AMPAS (85,000 euros) and the waste collection contract (1.1 million euros) were approved unanimously and with the support of the PP and PSOE, respectively, while being rejected by VxT and Vox.
Several proposals were rejected during the session, including the repair of the flamenco class floor (9,500 euros), security agreements (30,000 euros), the creation of three new playgrounds, and the rehabilitation of the Casa de los Maestros for psychological care (30,000 euros).
A budget of 747,000 euros for street asphalt paving also failed to pass, as did a proposal to allocate 20,000 euros to mental health programs in subsidized schools. Regarding the latter, the PP denounced an "irregular vote" by councilor Nuria Antón, a teacher at one of the affected schools, for not recusing herself from the vote.
The PSOE rejected a motion by Vox on 'national priority' for aid and public services, calling it a "deception" and a "trap" that targets immigrants. The socialist spokesperson, Víctor Ibáñez, questioned Vox's criteria for nationality.
Other debated motions included the strike by early childhood education staff (rejected) and improvements in fire prevention and extinction (rejected), while a proposal by the PP on immigrant regularization was approved.
