Galapagar has consolidated 2026 as the 'Year of Parks', promoting the improvement and expansion of public spaces for family leisure and sports. The actions have responded to citizen demands, working in various parts of the municipality.
In María Zambrano street, in Parquelagos, a completely renovated children's park has been inaugurated. The new games, made from 100% recycled plastics, incorporate accessibility, safety, and environmental respect criteria. The space features a modular multi-play structure, a ground-level multi-play unit, a nest swing, and a rocker.
The improvement schedule began with the new park in Colonia España, which included children's play areas and a natural circuit. Subsequently, the park on José Capelo street, in La Navata, was renovated, restoring a multi-sport court, adding cross-training and calisthenics elements, and a bicycle repair station.
To enhance comfort, approximately 300 square meters of shade were installed in the children's park on Avenida Víctimas del Terrorismo, a frequent request from families. The City Council plans to extend these solutions to other high-traffic parks.
The commitment to sports will continue in Parquelagos with the transformation of its sports facilities into an Open Sports Space. This project, with an investment of 1.6 million euros, includes the creation of two artificial turf 7-a-side football pitches, three paddle tennis courts, a renovated basketball court, a children's area, LED lighting, and universal accessibility measures.
The municipal objective is to maintain a network of well-kept, safe, and accessible public spaces, prioritizing interventions in areas requiring action and addressing the demands of citizens.
