Individuals temporarily housed in the Multifunctional Building of Collado Villalba due to forest fires in the Western Sierra will leave the town shortly. As confirmed by the mayor, Mariola Vargas, the 17 individuals from Valdemaqueda, along with one person from Robledo de Chavela, are expected to return to their homes. The National Center for Emergency Monitoring and Coordination lifted the evacuation order for both municipalities late Wednesday afternoon.
The five families accommodated in the designated shelter have spent three days in a facility chosen for its climate control, showers, cafeteria, and an interior patio for children and pets, in addition to its central location. The Coordinator of Emergencies and Civil Protection, Diego Herrera, stated it is a fully autonomous accommodation that could remain available if needed.
The operation was coordinated by Civil Protection in collaboration with various municipal departments, including Social Services and the Works Brigade.

One of the affected individuals, Rosa, from Robledo de Chavela, recounted receiving the alert late and facing difficulties finding transport, even witnessing the flames. She stayed to care for foster cats but her health deteriorated, prompting intervention from the Civil Guard of Galapagar.
Rosa expressed gratitude for the care received and her eagerness to return home with her cats, despite the unpredictable situation. She concluded by hoping that organizations would support those who lost their homes.
