The Galapagar Town Council has awarded the Villa's Medal of Honor to prominent figures in the defense of freedom and democracy in Venezuela, in an emotional ceremony held on Saturday in Pontejos Square.

The municipality of Galapagar hosted a significant event where the Villa's Medal of Honor was bestowed upon a prominent figure in Venezuelan politics and a representative of the opposition, in a tribute that underscores the importance of defending the freedom, democracy, and dignity of the Venezuelan people.
During the ceremony, the mayor of Galapagar, Carla Greciano, recalled that in 2024, the municipality was a pioneer in recognizing these figures, even when their stance was not mainstream and faced opposition from the left. The mayor emphasized that certain decisions are made out of coherence, not convenience, anticipating the international recognition that both leaders later received.

"Today we are not just talking about two people, but about what they represent: the defense of freedom, democracy, and family unity."

The mayor highlighted the profound significance of the act, especially in a municipality like Galapagar, which hosts residents from up to 95 nationalities, including nearly 300 Venezuelans. She stressed that events in Venezuela are not alien to the municipality and dedicated emotional words to the local Venezuelan community, acknowledging their efforts to rebuild their lives away from their home country.

"Today is such an emotional day… today we all feel like Galapagueños, but we also know that you support this cause and this struggle, which is universal: the struggle for freedom, for dignity, for democracy. Venezuela will be free, and we will always remember and carry this day in our hearts."
