The Tres Cantos City Council has activated its 2026 Municipal Fire Prevention Plan, a comprehensive initiative designed to safeguard residents and the municipality's valuable natural heritage against the imminent summer season and high temperatures. The campaign, presented this Tuesday, June 17, 2026, outlines a total of 30 key actions.
These measures range from the thorough maintenance of green and forest areas, tree management, to the modernization of technical equipment and constant coordination with the Community of Madrid and security forces. Mayor Jesús Moreno emphasized prevention as "the most effective protection tool," highlighting the reinforcement of resources and optimization of procedures to anticipate risks.
One of the most significant novelties is the expansion of brush-clearing work in the Parque Este, now covering the entire plot, not just the traditional firebreak perimeter. Similarly, these tasks have been intensified in access roads, municipal plots, and forest areas, including extraordinary actions in the Parque Central. Protection strips have been reinforced in strategic points near residential areas, such as the surroundings of the Arroyo del Bodonal, Tagarral, San Juan, and Teresa de Calcuta, reducing vegetation load.
Investment in specialized forestry machinery has enabled access to difficult-to-reach areas, improving the efficiency of preventive actions. New tools and technological equipment have been acquired, and contracts have been signed for pruning, felling, and brush-clearing work, especially following recent storm episodes. Dead vegetation and ailing specimens of arizonic species have also been removed in various areas.
The plan promotes institutional coordination with entities such as Canal de Isabel II and Iberdrola, and meetings have been held with local companies like Normon and Quetta to address risk management. First Deputy Mayor Javier Juárez stressed the importance of collaboration between administrations and council departments for a comprehensive and rapid response.
As a complementary and sustainable measure, a grazing system with 200 merino sheep has been implemented to naturally reduce the accumulation of vegetal fuel. Citizen participation is promoted through meetings with the Mancomunidad de Soto de Viñuelas and environmental organizations like ARBA.
The plan also includes recovery measures following the August 2025 fire, such as aid for those affected, plant distribution to promote environmental recovery, streamlined urban planning procedures, water consumption discounts, and technical studies for the rehabilitation of affected areas. The mayor called for "collective responsibility" to exercise extreme caution and protect the natural environment.
