More than 600 schoolchildren in Tres Cantos are participating throughout April in the “Training in Values” program, an initiative that uses sports to foster inclusion, empathy, and respect among 5th-grade primary students.

The program, which takes place in 11 educational centers in the municipality, including nine public schools and two subsidized private schools, is designed to introduce students to the reality of people with intellectual disabilities. The methodology is based on direct experience and reflection on diversity.
Organized by Special Olympics Madrid, in collaboration with the Tres Cantos City Council and the Niqui Foundation, the project runs between April 13 and 30. A distinctive feature is the active participation of technicians with intellectual disabilities, who serve as role models and highlight their abilities.

These types of initiatives complement academic education with essential learning for coexistence, breaking down stereotypes and fostering a vision of diversity as an element of social enrichment.

In addition to promoting inclusion, the program addresses the prevention of school bullying, allowing students to experience situations that facilitate understanding of the challenges faced by people with intellectual disabilities. Sports thus become an educational tool to transmit values such as equality, cooperation, and mutual respect, aiming for a long-term impact on the educational community of Tres Cantos.
