The initiative, scheduled for April 23, aims to highlight the importance of scientific knowledge transmitted through books, in a significant year for astronomical observation in Spain due to the beginning of a cycle of historical eclipses.
These guided tours through the museum's library focus on the astronomy collection, demonstrating how printed volumes have been fundamental for the advancement and dissemination of scientific knowledge across generations. The proposal invites reflection on the role of books in understanding celestial phenomena.
The choice of the astronomical theme is not coincidental, as 2026 marks the beginning of the “eclipse trio,” a series of highly relevant astronomical events that will capture the attention of the scientific community and the general public. Attendees will be able to connect the content of the books with current scientific events, understanding the evolution of our comprehension of the universe.
To ensure a quality experience, MUNCYT has organized two exclusive sessions on Thursday, April 23, at 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM. The activity is free and open to all audiences, with no prior knowledge required. Due to limited capacity of 15 people per session, advance reservation is essential by sending an email to infomuseo@muncyt.es, indicating “Visita Día del Libro” (Book Day Visit) in the subject line.
Beyond the book exhibition, this initiative underscores the relevance of specialized libraries as pillars for an informed and critical society. The museum seeks for visitors to perceive books not only as exhibition objects but as living tools that foster pluralistic thinking and commitment to scientific knowledge.
