The main objective of this initiative is to protect individuals at higher risk of complications, such as the elderly or those with other health conditions, as well as those who may transmit the virus to vulnerable populations. Seasonal flu is a highly contagious acute respiratory infection that can range from mild to severe and occasionally fatal, occurring in epidemic waves during winter. Vaccination is considered the most effective preventive measure.
The campaign will take place at various locations across the region, including health centers, clinics, and hospitals of the Servicio Madrileño de Salud (SERMAS), the International Vaccination Center of the Community of Madrid, Community Health Centers of the Madrid City Council, accredited private hospitals and medical centers, and other institutions like nursing homes and penitentiary centers.
Initially, vaccination will prioritize individuals over 60 years old and children aged 6 months to 7 years. Starting October 13th, healthcare professionals will be vaccinated, followed by other defined risk groups and the general public who request it from October 19th.
Due to the temporal overlap with the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, centers distributing both vaccines will offer the coronavirus dose to individuals indicated for both.
