The Colmenar Viejo City Council, through its Department for Seniors, has launched a series of intergenerational discussions at the 'Retama' Senior Center, aiming to foster dialogue and knowledge exchange between different generations, starting with a debate on neuroscience.

The 'Retama' Senior Center in Colmenar Viejo is set to become a meeting point for residents of all ages, participating in an innovative series of discussions. These debates, covering topics such as science and emotions, aim to build bridges between generations and enrich the social life of the municipality. The first session will focus on advances in neuroscience, initiating a participatory format where attendees will decide future topics.
This initiative, promoted by the Department for Seniors, primarily seeks to create a space for shared reflection. The proposal aims for people from different stages of life, from young adults to seniors, to exchange knowledge and worldviews, thereby breaking down generational barriers.
The first meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, April 15, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, in the TV Room of the 'Retama' Senior Center, located at Calle de la Retama, number 12. Beyond learning, the activity intends to be a driver of community coexistence, where the experience of seniors and the curiosity of younger individuals mutually complement each other.

"This discussion group is born with the intention of creating a lively space where seniors and young people can share concerns, knowledge, and experiences on equal terms."

Enrique Navarro Hermosilla · Councillor for Family, Seniors, Youth, and Childhood
To inaugurate the series, a topic of great interest has been chosen: the functioning of the human brain, under the title 'Weighing Love, Measuring Emotion'. The session will explore advances in neuroscience, a field that has revolutionized our understanding of how the brain continues to generate neurons throughout life and how complex feelings can be scientifically analyzed.
Dr. Ignacio Prieto, a chemist, biochemist, and specialist in molecular biology, will moderate the sessions. His role will be that of a facilitator, making complex concepts accessible in a simple manner and encouraging participation from all attendees, without requiring prior knowledge. The dynamic will include a fifteen-minute introduction by Dr. Prieto, followed by an open discussion where residents can express their questions and reflections.
Citizen participation is fundamental to this project, as attendees themselves will have the opportunity to vote and decide the topics for future sessions, ensuring that the content reflects the interests of the Colmenar Viejo community. This free initiative, open to all audiences, seeks to invigorate the social life of the municipality and promote active aging.
