The Colmenar Viejo City Council has taken advantage of the school holiday closure to undertake significant structural, accessibility, and energy efficiency reforms in various local educational centers. This financial injection, amounting to €609,502.18, brings the total investment in educational infrastructure improvements to nearly two million euros over the last three years. The primary objective is to ensure that the return to classes in September occurs in much safer, more inclusive spaces adapted to current demands.
The Department of Education has launched this battery of urgent and modernization interventions directly affecting five public schools. The concentration of these works during July and August is based on logistical and safety criteria, to avoid interference with teaching activities and ensure academic performance.
The maintenance and upkeep of school buildings fall entirely under the council's responsibility. School investment in Colmenar Viejo has approached two million euros in the last three budget years, reflecting the need to update facilities that suffer from the wear and tear of intensive use. The councilor responsible for the area, Lorena Colmenarejo, emphasizes that "investing in our educational centers is investing in the future of Colmenar Viejo."
At the Casita de Niños Infant School, €94,350.77 is being invested to completely transform the flooring and replace interior doors, aiming to improve thermal comfort and reduce accidental risks. The Los Enebros Infant School receives €116,784.59 for the replacement of windows and enclosures, and the construction of a new annex porch.
The Ángel León Public School is allocating €136,907.74 to redesign and expand its rainwater drainage system to address historical flooding issues. Meanwhile, the Tirso de Molina Public School is remodeling its outdoor areas with €143,061.97 to eliminate architectural barriers and improve accessibility.
The Miguel Hernández Special Education Center is receiving €118,397.11 for the expansion of its main access points and adaptation for people with reduced mobility, ensuring inclusive education without obstacles.
In addition to major works, the council maintains a rapid response maintenance contract with an annual budget of €375,000 to cover daily technical unforeseen events and breakdowns, ensuring the continuity of classes.
