The San Sebastián de los Reyes City Council has launched an initiative to eradicate dog urine from public spaces, distributing 14,000 free bottles and launching an awareness campaign with an urban song.

The city of San Sebastián de los Reyes, with one dog for every eight inhabitants, aims to promote civic behavior and cleanliness in its streets. The campaign, which includes a catchy urban song, primarily seeks to raise public awareness about the importance of diluting pet urine to prevent damage to street furniture and maintain the hygiene of public areas.
With 12,458 registered dogs, the municipality faces the challenge of managing coexistence between pets and citizens. Although most owners act responsibly, the incivility of a minority causes problems with dirt and odors. The initiative, under the slogan 'Don't leave your mark, use the bottle,' focuses on normalizing the act of immediately diluting urine, complementing previous actions against solid waste.

"The incivility of a few cannot harm the cleanliness of all."

To facilitate this task, the City Council will distribute 14,000 free anti-urine bottles. It is recommended to fill them with an equal parts solution of water and vinegar, as vinegar neutralizes odors and deters other dogs from marking the same spot, thereby protecting facades and street furniture. This solution is environmentally friendly and safe for pets.
The campaign has the support of local veterinary clinics such as La Dehesa, Valdelasfuentes, Sansepet–Veter Salud, Huellas, and Club de Campo, which will collaborate in distributing the bottles. Additionally, the Local Police will intensify surveillance and apply sanctions to those who do not comply with regulations, reminding that the municipal ordinance is mandatory.
The distribution of bottles will take place over several weeks in May at all municipal centers and at mobile points near 'pipicanes' (dog parks) and green areas. Visits to the municipal market are scheduled for Wednesdays, May 13 and 27, as well as evening sessions at key locations such as the La Marina amphitheater on Thursday the 7th, Monte Perdido street on Monday the 11th, Teide street on Thursday the 14th, Hayedo de Montejo avenue on Monday the 18th, and Alonso Zamora street on Monday the 25th.
