Next June 6th, Algete will host a free, public event at the Lagunas de las Huelgas, combining hiking, environmental care, ephemeral art, and a community picnic.

The initiative, organized by the Barrio Vivo association, will take place starting at 11:00 AM in the Callejón del Vivero, within the Santo Domingo urbanization. The goal is to offer a morning of outdoor enjoyment for families or friends, at no cost and without requiring special physical conditions.
The day includes a visit to recent plantations in the lagoon area, where attendees can actively participate by watering and tending to the trees and plants. This practical activity aims to contribute to the natural space's regeneration and showcase the ongoing vegetal recovery work.
Participants will also take a walking tour around the lagoon to observe the biodiversity and wildlife inhabiting this wetland, promoting respect for the ecosystem. The Lagunas de las Huelgas are a notable natural point of interest in the municipality.
One of the most original proposals will be the ephemeral art workshop, where natural materials such as stones, leaves, and branches will be used to create temporary artistic compositions. This creative activity is designed for all ages and requires no prior knowledge.
Furthermore, a waste collection, popularly known as 'basuraleza' (littering), will be carried out to clean the lagoon surroundings. Attendees are advised to bring gloves to facilitate this collective environmental care task.
The morning will conclude with a community picnic, a gathering space where each participant must bring their own food and drink. It is recommended to bring sufficient water, comfortable clothing, and footwear for outdoor activity.
Participation is free and open to all audiences. For more information, contact the Barrio Vivo association via email at infobarriovivo@gmail.com or by phone at 615 854 913.
