The Community of Madrid has announced an investment of €16.4 million for the renovation of 294 escalators across the Metro network, aiming to optimize their performance and minimize incidents.

The Governing Council has approved the awarding of these works, which will be carried out over a period of 48 months. The metropolitan company currently operates 1,712 such units, which require constant maintenance due to intensive use to ensure their operability and extend their lifespan.
Key actions include the replacement of step chains, an essential component for the proper functioning of escalators. This renovation aims to prevent breakdowns caused by wear and tear from time and service intensity.
Additionally, various mechanical and electrical systems will be modernized, including control cabinets and safety and communication elements. These improvements will enable more efficient facility management and more precise monitoring of their condition.
The work will be carried out using original manufacturer spare parts to ensure component compatibility and maintain equipment performance.
