The Community of Madrid is screening the film 'Madrid Graffiti. Origins', directed by the curator of the exhibition on the origins of hip hop in Spain, Francisco Reyes. The 90-minute film explores the beginnings of graffiti in the Spanish capital and the emergence of the characteristic arrow style.
This local visual language transformed urban culture, youth identity, and the use of public space in the country. The documentary is the result of years of research into graffiti, urban culture, and visual narratives in Madrid.
The director moves away from nostalgia to construct a critical account of how a subcultural visual language emerges, spreads, and becomes part of collective memory. The film combines archival material, interviews, and current urban landscapes.
The documentary has been screened at various international festivals, including Paris and New York, and was part of the official selection at the Afaq independent and international film festival in Germany, winning over a dozen awards.
Its screening at the MUF will be its premiere in Spain. Admission is free until capacity is reached, and invitations can be collected at the box office two hours prior to the event.
