The event, chaired by the current mayor, along with the deputy mayor and other members of the Government team, also saw the presence of several former mayors of the city. The ceremony took place in the Casa de la Villa, an emblematic space for municipal politics.

During his speech, the current mayor highlighted the political career of the honoree and the importance of harmony for the city's progress. He emphasized the former mayor's ability to connect with Madrid society and his long-term vision.
It was recalled that key decisions made during his tenure, such as the construction of IFEMA and Mercamadrid, as well as the creation of the municipal housing company, continue to benefit citizens 40 years later. These initiatives demonstrate the lasting impact of his management.
As part of this commemoration, the Madrid City Council has published a special edition that compiles the edicts issued by the former mayor during his period leading the municipal corporation.
