The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, informed the Assembly of Madrid that the regional government will request urgent precautionary measures for the “immediate dissolution” of the encampment. This request follows the expiration of the 48-hour deadline granted to the Government Delegate to take the necessary actions.
“I announce that this very morning the Community of Madrid will file an administrative litigation appeal against the inaction of the Government Delegate who refuses to evict the illegal encampment in Puerta del Sol,” stated the president.
Díaz Ayuso also called for access for emergency services to the square, stating: “Please, clear enough space, at least, for ambulances to pass.” She also denounced the difficulties the encampment was allegedly causing to local businesses.
The Community of Madrid argues that the permanent concentration and encampment in Puerta del Sol exceed the constitutional and legal limits of the right to assembly. The regional Executive also considers it the responsibility of the Government Delegate to adopt preventive and surveillance measures to ensure the protection of people, property, and institutions.
According to the regional government, this situation is compounded by vandalism and damage to elements of the historical-artistic heritage of Puerta del Sol. The appeal seeks for the administrative litigation jurisdiction to determine the measures to be adopted regarding the encampment and the actions of the Government Delegation.
