The Community of Madrid has announced the upcoming opening of the House of Cinema at the former residence of Carlos Saura in Collado Mediano. Scheduled for Spring 2027, this initiative aims to become a training and mentorship center for future filmmakers.
Students will have the opportunity to work in the director's studio, access his personal library and archive, and use his cameras. Saura's work will thus be transformed into an intensive learning tool, where participants will develop their own projects inspired by his creative universe and guided by renowned directors.
This project, announced by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, during the last State of the Region Debate, will be carried out in collaboration with the family of Carlos Saura, who passed away in 2023, the School of Cinematography and Audiovisual of the Community of Madrid (ECAM), and professionals from the audiovisual sector.
The House of Cinema is part of the regional government's actions to support the audiovisual industry, a key sector for the Madrid economy that generates employment, investment, tourism, and innovation. This sector represents 2.2% of Madrid's GDP and contributes over 7.5 billion euros.
The region boasts a diversity of geography and heritage that facilitates film productions, attracting the industry. Furthermore, the future Network of Filming Destinations of the Community of Madrid aims to streamline and promote cinematographic activity in all municipalities.
Additionally, a pilot program will be implemented for young people aged 18 to 25, offering a discount of 3.5 euros on cinema tickets during the upcoming month of February, coinciding with the Goya Awards. This initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport and the Federation of Cinemas of Spain (FECE), aims to bring cinema closer to new generations.
