The State Research Agency (AEI) is participating in the Madrid Science and Innovation Week 2026 with a talk on environmental pollutants, plastics, and microplastics affecting our health.

The conference, titled "The Invisible Threat: Environmental Pollutants, Plastics, and Microplastics Affecting Our Health," will be held on November 25th at the headquarters of the State Research Agency. It will feature Pilar Santisteban Sanz, a Doctor of Biology and current researcher at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Santisteban is globally recognized in the field of the thyroid gland and has received accolades such as the Lilly Medal from the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (SEEN) and the Pinchera Prize from the European Thyroid Association.
During her presentation, Santisteban will discuss how plastics and endocrine disruptors present in air, water, food, and everyday products can alter the hormonal system, impacting growth, metabolism, and reproduction.
The Science and Innovation Week is an event for scientific outreach and citizen participation organized by the Community of Madrid through the madri+d Knowledge Foundation, aiming to involve society in research and development processes in science, technology, and innovation.
The talk will take place on November 25th from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM in the Auditorium of the State Research Agency, located at C/Torrelaguna, 58, Madrid.
