Guillermo Sotorrío Ortega, from the Advanced and Sustainable Construction Group at the Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Sciences (CSIC), participated in the presentation event for the first Spanish standard on industrialized building construction. The standard, named UNE 41610:2026, is titled «Industrialized building construction. Definitions, classification, and industrialization index» and was organized by the Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE) on October 8th in Madrid.
As a member of the standard's drafting team, Sotorrío was responsible for presenting its main contents. The new regulation establishes a common technical framework for defining and classifying industrialized components, as well as a methodology for quantifying the level of industrialization in buildings.
The meeting brought together representatives from public administrations, standardization bodies, research centers, and companies in the sector. The objective was to analyze the implications of this new standard and its contribution to the development of industrialized construction.
The publication of UNE 41610:2026 represents a significant advancement for the building sector, by providing common criteria that facilitate the characterization and evaluation of industrialized solutions.
