Following the success of previous editions, the initiative returns from October to January in three municipal libraries. Participants will be able to approach research in an enjoyable and entertaining way through titles from the collection What do we know about? (CSIC-Catarata).
The reading clubs, aimed at adult audiences, will include meetings with CSIC researchers who have written popular science books. These sessions will allow attendees to learn about scientific advancements, their processes, and their social impact, as well as to debate various research-related topics with specialists.
Topics such as the search for extraterrestrial life, nutrition myths circulating on social media, the presence of microplastics in the environment and their impact on health, solar eclipses, or the importance of seeds for our survival as a species will be addressed. These clubs are promoted by the Vice Presidency for Scientific Culture and Citizen Science (VACC) of the CSIC and the Area of Culture, Tourism, and Sport of the City Council.
At the David Gistau Municipal Public Library (BPM), the focus will be on seeds and their conservation, debunking nutrition myths lacking scientific backing, and providing information on the presence of micro and nanoplastics in our environment and bodies. The sessions will be moderated by Miguel Zamorano (CSIC Editorial) and will feature Cristina Nieto, Marta García-Díaz, Miguel Herrero, Auxiliadora Prieto, Victoria Moreno, Cinta Porte, and Amparo López.
The María Zambrano BPM will focus on global health, discussing appropriate exercise for the brain and body, the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, and the consequences of global change. Moderated by Annabella Martínez (VACC-CSIC), it will include José Luis Trejo, Lara Lloret, Fernando Valladares, Adrián Escudero, and Xiomara Cantera.
Meanwhile, the Francisco Ibáñez BPM will offer a journey through the universe, exploring extraterrestrial life, solar eclipses, and light pollution. The encounters will be moderated by Carmen Guerrero and Irene Lapuerta (VACC-CSIC), with the participation of Alejandro Sánchez, Ester Lázaro, and Alicia Pelegrina.
