Centro Danza Matadero, an initiative of the Area of Culture, Tourism and Sport, launches the second edition of ‘Nuevos Creadores’, a cycle dedicated to fostering young dance talents.

From October to December 2026, Centro Danza Matadero will focus on young dance talents with the second edition of ‘Nuevos Creadores’. This cycle is designed to support companies, dancers, and choreographers with national and international projection. The delegate for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, presented the initiative, which includes five performances spanning flamenco, Spanish, and contemporary dance. Four of these will be absolute premieres, including new creations by the three resident artists at the center for the 2026 season. All performances are co-produced by Centro Danza Matadero and are free for young people aged 16 to 30 through the Bono Joven Cultural of the Madrid City Council.
Following the success of its first edition, Centro Danza Matadero reinforces its commitment to emerging artists, not only through co-production and exhibition but also via training and the dissemination of new trends in dance. ‘Nuevos Creadores’ will serve to discover the latest works by artists and companies that are renewing the choreographic language in Spain. The program features Led Silhouette (October 30 and 31), Jesús Benzal (November 20 and 21), and new works by resident artists Paula Comitre (November 6 and 7), Fonsi López (November 27 and 28), and Juan Berlanga (December 4 and 5). The cycle will also include several training workshops.
The Navarrese company Led Silhouette (Premio El Ojo Crítico de Danza 2024) will present ‘ULTIMATUM’ on October 30 and 31. This contemporary piece, blending dance, theater, and film, reflects on emotional, climatic, and political collapse, exploring human contradictions, isolation, and social decay. The work questions our responsibility when aware of problems but failing to act.
Paula Comitre, a resident artist at Centro Danza Matadero, will present ‘Bien vale un imperio’ on November 6 and 7. This performance, the second in her ‘Trilogía de la Edad de Plata Femenina’ (Trilogy of the Female Silver Age), draws inspiration from the figure of Pastora Imperio and the legacy of key women in the consolidation of 20th-century flamenco and Spanish dance. The piece translates resonances of flamenco from that era into a contemporary language, accompanied by three guitars and the collaboration of the visual artist duo Fuentesal Arenillas.
On November 20 and 21, Jesús Benzal will present ‘Donde no hay nada (Arquitectura de la ausencia)’ (Where There Is Nothing - Architecture of Absence). This absolute premiere in contemporary dance choreographically explores the perception of emptiness as a possibility for artistic construction, using the metaphor of the eye of the hurricane. Benzal, with a career combining performance, creation, and stage production, has presented his works at national and international festivals.
Fonsi López, also a resident artist, will present ‘Apex Timing’ on November 27 and 28. This contemporary dance piece for five dancers addresses the culture of constant productivity in today's society, where output has become a measure of life's value. López, known for his physicality and dynamic richness, has worked with various European companies and was a choreographer for Nathy Peluso's world tour.
The company of Juan Berlanga, a resident artist and recipient of a Premio Max 2026 for Best Male Dance Performer, will close the cycle on December 4 and 5 with ‘El salto de Butes’ (Butes' Leap). This large-scale original creation, inspired by the Greek myth of Butes, fuses Spanish dance and flamenco with a contemporary gesture. It features collaborations with Niño de Elche for musical composition and Alberto Conejero for dramaturgy.
