The performance, organized in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Center in Spain, will feature a repertoire ranging from sacred, shamanic, and secular music to minyo, the folk song from the Hwanghae-do region in northern Korea. ADG7, composed of six traditional Korean music performers and three powerful female folk singers, offers a vibrant and glamorous style that blends tradition with a modern and often comical approach, conveying positive energy and spiritual blessings.
A distinctive feature of the group is its stage presence, which includes brightly colored costumes derived from the attire and accessories used by shamans. These outfits, expressing the gender fluidity of shamans as mediums, often combine women's hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) with traditional male hats.
ADG7 was formed in 2015 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation and aims to express the true meaning of liberation and South Korea's desire for reunification. The group has performed at major international festivals such as WOMEX in 2019 and globalFEST in 2020, and received the award for Best Artist at the KBS Korean Traditional Music Competition in 2018.
The group has been described by The New York Times as «a dizzying spectacle band with all the trappings of choreographed K-pop singers, sweet-colored costumes, and lively, upbeat, and often swinging songs that link the conciseness of folk melodies with the catchy repetition of pop. The band’s energetic set will captivate viewers».
Tickets for the concert are now available for purchase on the center's website: www.condeduquemadrid.es.
