The Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) has alerted about two issues detected in the Dexcom G7 applications that could prevent the correct reception of both critical and non-critical alerts, affecting users of iOS and Android.

The incidents, which vary depending on the application version and operating system, could cause delays in detecting hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia episodes. The manufacturer, Dexcom, Inc., states that no serious injuries have been associated with these failures.
In version 2.12 for iOS, non-critical alerts might not sound if the phone is in silent or concentration mode. Only critical alerts ignore these settings. The manufacturer has already released an updated version that resolves this issue, ensuring all alerts emit sound.
Furthermore, according to versions prior to 2.12 of the Dexcom G7 for iOS, G7 Watch for iOS, and G7 for Android applications, critical alerts might not function as expected. Specifically, they may not vibrate in “do not disturb” mode and, in some cases, may not sound for up to 25 minutes for alerts like “critical disk space” or “recoverable/unrecoverable error.” Updated versions have also been made available to fix these problems.
The Dexcom G7 application is part of a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system designed for individuals over two years old, including pregnant women, which measures glucose levels in interstitial fluid and replaces fingerstick blood glucose tests for treatment decisions.
Updated versions are now available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Dexcom Spain, located in Madrid, is informing affected users through in-app notifications and recommends following instructions to update the software.
