This initiative, led by the National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO-ISCIII), the Biomedical Research Network Centre (CIBER-ISCIII), and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-National Supercomputing Centre (BSC–CNS), aims to progressively integrate all stakeholders in the Spanish cancer research ecosystem.
The Node seeks to have research centres, hospitals, and national and international projects incorporate their relevant data, promoting the use and reuse of information through standards that enhance interoperability and the application of FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).
The Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, highlighted that the initiative "puts the data and capabilities of public science at the service of research to advance towards increasingly precise and personalized medicine, in this case, in the fight against cancer".
The project aligns with the European Health Data Space, facilitating secure information exchange and emerging from the EOSC4Cancer project. National and European cooperation is expected to accelerate the discovery of new treatments and improve patients' quality of life.
The National Cancer Data Node will allow the research community to access large catalogues of data and computing tools quickly and agilely, ensuring a secure environment for handling oncological information.
