From July 7 to August 29, the Veranos de la Villa festival will unfold its program, designed to establish the capital's cultural offerings as a summer highlight. The event will feature 72 proposals distributed across 14 Madrid districts, blending genres such as music, dance, flamenco, performing arts, cinema, and exhibitions.
The program presentation took place in the south courtyard of Conde Duque, with an urban beach setting. The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, emphasized that the city, despite lacking a coast, boasts a rich cultural scene. He highlighted the festival's importance for residents staying in the city during the summer, stating that Madrid's vitality is largely based on its cultural dynamism.
The program will kick off at Matadero Madrid with a musical party by LOS40 Classic, revisiting summer hits since 1985. The main stages will be the central courtyard of Conde Duque and the Cloister of the Instituto San Isidro, with activities also extending to other venues like the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid and Enrique Tierno Galván Park.
Music will be a central focus, with genres ranging from symphonic and zarzuela to flamenco, jazz, and copla. Highlights include a performance by the Community of Madrid Orchestra and Choir conducted by Alondra de la Parra, a tribute to James Bond music by the Municipal Symphonic Band of Madrid with singer Roko, and the closing concert by the RTVE Orchestra and Choir dedicated to ABBA.
The festival will also feature tributes to artists like Antonio Vega and Miles Davis, and performances by figures such as Lila Downs and Kiki Morente. In dance, the world premiere of Concertdanza, directed by Joaquín de Luz alongside Vasko Vassilev, will be presented, along with performances by dancer Malavika Sarukkai and the London City Ballet.
Flamenco will have a significant presence with artists like Farruquito and Jesús Carmona. The performing arts program includes theatrical works such as 'Querida Ágatha Christie' and 'Dos tronos dos reinas'.
The offerings are rounded out by the 'Yo fui EGB' exhibition at Conde Duque, a nostalgic journey through iconic objects, and the exhibition 'Art and Mercy. The Baroque of Santa Caridad de Sevilla in Madrid', featuring works by masters like Bartolomé Esteban Murillo.
Cinema returns to Parque de la Bombilla with the 'Cine caliente' series, and 'Cine COPTOCAM' is added, focusing on inclusion and mental health. Tickets for several shows are now available on the festival's website and physical points of sale.
