The Community of Madrid Transfusion Center has warned through its social media channels about the critical state of blood reserves. 0+, AB-, and B- are the most needed groups, followed by A+, A-, and 0-, for which donations are requested in the next two to three days.
Although reserves for AB+ and B+ remain at normal levels, the importance of regular donation is emphasized to ensure continuous supply. The Madrid region requires approximately 900 daily donations to supply its 70 hospitals.
“"Blood cannot be manufactured and is necessary to save lives in emergencies, for cancer treatments, surgeries..."
The demand for blood components is constant throughout the year, covering emergencies, surgical interventions, transplants, and treatments for cancer, as well as addressing hemorrhages and burns.
The donation process, which takes about 20 minutes, requires donors to be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh over 50 kilos, and be in good health. Men can donate up to four times a year, and women three times. Donation points include the Transfusion Center on Avenida de la Democracia and mobile units distributed throughout the region.
