The funds will be used to support minors affected by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela. The project focuses on education to assist the young people, who face risks such as family separation, interruption of their academic training, loss of access to health services, exposure to physical dangers, and mental health problems stemming from trauma.
As detailed by the University of Alcalá de Henares (UAH), at least 38 hospitals and 432 educational centers have suffered significant damage, along with over 2,500 infrastructures, leading to a "collapse" of public services in the affected areas.
The main objectives of this joint initiative between CRUMA and Unicef are to "raise awareness and sensitize" the university community about the "importance" of social commitment as part of their training. The UAH also recalled its recent collaboration with the Venezuelan football team that participated in the Madcup 2026. The university's General Foundation provided accommodation and food for the 40 members of the delegation for several days, after their return plans were postponed due to the tournament coinciding with the earthquake.
The earthquakes, measuring 7.5 and 7.2 on the Richter scale and registered in late June, have caused over 4,800 deaths and 16,740 injuries in the country.
