This pioneering project in the region aims to recognize the academic effort and social commitment of students. The regional minister of Family, Youth and Social Affairs, Ana Dávila, highlighted the enthusiasm of the awardees during a meeting at the Cleopatra exhibition at Matadero Madrid, emphasizing their desire to learn and their social involvement.
“"It is enriching to see their eagerness to learn, social commitment, and excitement to take this step in their personal development."
To be selected, adolescents had to have passed all their subjects, either from ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education) or Vocational Training cycles, and possess the Youth Card of the Community of Madrid. Additionally, they submitted an Xplora Project, addressing topics such as mental health, environmental importance, or the dangers of screens and social media.
The initiative, announced by the regional president during the last Debate on the State of the Region, will take place from June 19 to 30. During this period, the young people will have the opportunity to visit emblematic sites such as the Giza pyramids, the Karnak temple, and the Valley of the Kings.
In addition to delving into the mysteries of one of humanity's most influential civilizations, participants will also be able to kayak on the Nile, camp in the desert, and engage in various sports and social activities. A team of twelve professionals will accompany the twenty young adventurers throughout the expedition.
The Madrid Xplora program is supported by the Ministry of Family, Youth and Social Affairs, through the General Directorate of Youth. The Spanish Geographical Society, the National Archaeological Museum, and the CSIC (Superior Council for Scientific Research) are also part of this project.
