The Community of Madrid has reactivated the expansion works at the Hispanidad public school in Rivas Vaciamadrid, following the halt and voluntary contract withdrawal by the initial contractor. These delays had caused concern among the educational community.
Upon noting the work stoppage, the Regional Ministry of Education, Science, and Universities required the company to immediately resume operations. However, the construction firm communicated its inability to continue and requested the contract be transferred to another company.
The Ministry's technical services deemed the voluntary contract cession the most suitable solution to ensure project continuity and minimize harm to students and families, thereby avoiding significant delays that a new resolution and bidding process would entail.
With the contract cession formalized, work has restarted with the aim of making the expansion operational "as soon as possible." The Community of Madrid will closely monitor the progress to ensure the upcoming 2026-2027 school year begins smoothly.
The expansion is necessary to accommodate the projected increase in student enrollment, with two new three-year-old infant classes planned for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Minister of Education, Mercedes Zarzalejo, had previously reassured families in April following a protest at the school.
