The architectural complex, located at Calle Serrano number 61 and currently converted into the ABC Serrano shopping center, has been proposed for declaration as a Monument due to its historical, architectural, and material value.
These properties, designed between the late 19th century and the 1930s, housed the printing press and administration of the magazine 'Blanco y Negro', founded in 1891, and later the headquarters of the newspaper ABC, founded in 1903.
The file highlights the building's constructive evolution, combining styles such as neoplateresque, Sevillian regionalism, neomudejar, and elements close to art deco, reflecting the history of editorial production and its adaptation to commercial uses.
Original elements of great artistic value are preserved, including ceramics by Daniel Zuloaga, stained glass by the Maumejean house, and ironwork, as well as murals by José Arija and architectural details that recall the publications' era of splendor.
The publication of the resolution in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid (BOCM) underscores the importance of preserving this complex, whose current commercial use is considered compatible with its conservation, provided its heritage values are respected.
