The publication, titled La cerámica en la pintura del Museo Nacional del Prado, is the result of a project initiated in 2004 by the Institute of Ceramics and Glass. The work involved eight authors who reviewed over 8,000 paintings in the gallery to select 783 works where ceramics play a relevant role.
The book classifies objects by type, including terracotta, earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain. The goal is to provide a guide that allows both the general public and specialists to understand the functionality, historical impact, and manufacturing techniques of these everyday items appearing in the paintings.
This initiative continues a line of research on materials in art that previously produced the 2012 volume El vidrio en la pintura del Museo Nacional del Prado. The new work is now available for free download through the CSIC Editorial digital platform.
