The National Police and the Madrid Municipal Police have arrested two individuals in the Tetuan district after discovering a two-month-old baby in a state of neglect.

The operation took place last Sunday at a property on Calle Castilla, following emergency calls from residents regarding a high-risk situation. Upon entering the home, officers found the infant severely dehydrated and surrounded by waste, excrement, and insect infestations.
After being rushed to La Paz University Hospital, clinical tests confirmed that the infant tested positive for cocaine. The mother, who appeared intoxicated, admitted to consuming alcohol and drugs while breastfeeding the baby.
During the inspection, police found the parents in an unsanitary environment, with traces of alcohol and drug packaging. Several animals were also found in neglected conditions and were removed by Madrid City Council veterinary services to the Animal Protection Center.
The detainees, who were hostile during the arrest, face charges of child abuse, injury, and neglect, as well as resisting authority. The Community of Madrid has initiated legal procedures to assume guardianship of the child, while the case remains under judicial review.
