The Plaza de Castilla courts in Madrid are facing a persistent bed bug infestation that has caused officer bites for weeks, despite pest control attempts.

A bed bug invasion at the Plaza de Castilla courts has led to weeks of bites among officials. Despite prior warnings and pest control interventions, the infestation persists, adding to the building's historical issues like leaks and dampness.
The seat of a duty court had to close sections in April due to the infestation, which reappeared in May in the diligence room. Several weeks later, the CSIF union has formally reported the situation to various institutions, including the Justice Prevention Service, the Directorate General of Infrastructure, and the Deanery of the Courts of Madrid.
David Mohedano, CSIF's Justice delegate, stated that although a pest control service was hired, officials continue to suffer bites, indicating the action was ineffective. The union has received a response indicating an urgent pest control visit will occur to assess the situation and plan new measures.
In its official statement, CSIF confirms that the presence of bed bugs continues to affect workers at Plaza de Castilla, and the previous pest control campaign has not resolved the issue. The problem will be the first item on the agenda at the next Safety and Health Committee meeting.
The persistence of the infestation has led some officials to take extreme precautions to avoid bringing the insects into their homes. This situation affects one of the capital's busiest judicial complexes, frequented daily by justice administration professionals, lawyers, prosecutors, police officers, and citizens.
Complaints about working conditions at Plaza de Castilla are not new. In recent years, repeated maintenance problems have been reported, ranging from water leaks to structural deficiencies, to which the bed bug infestation now adds another chapter.
